Een vaak genoemde reden om geen ecogram te maken van een nieuwe cliënt is: "Wij kennen het netwerk van de klant al". De medewerkers maken inderdaad kennis met de mantelzorger die de cliënt begeleidt bij de intakegesprekken. Soms ook nog met één of twee anderen die helpen bij de inhuizing. Daarmee is voor hen "het netwerk van de klant" in kaart: dat is de contactpersoon en met een beetje geluk nog één of twee andere directe naasten.
